Balinese Guitar Carving, Blend of Carving Expert and Guitar Makers

Beside rich with cultural attractions, Bali is also rich with the artists who continue to work. In Gianyar, Bali, the guitar carving artist work is famous to foreign countries.

Sculpture and make a guitar is 2 different types of expertise. How would it be if these two types of expertise are combined? The result is a guitar carving.

Carving craft workshop is belonging to Wayan Tuges guitar, which is located in the village of Guwang, District of Sukawati, Gianyar, and Bali. He works with some workers who are mostly experienced artisan carving on the guitar carving making process.

Wayan Tuges is using imported wood such as cedar, spruce, tasmanian black wood and rose wood, the basic material for this ukirnya guitar. Each worker has the expertise to assemble multiple components into a guitar and do the engraving.

Precautions are necessary to carve because of the thickness of only about 2 millimeters.

Guitar fretwork carving motifs include Celtic motifs, ancient Roman, animals, and various other traditional Balinese motifs. Carving the guitar-making process takes up to 6 months.

Guitar artificial carving by Wayan Tuges is exclusive because there is none between guitars with the other. Because that does exclusively not be surprised if the price is relatively expensive at between Rp 5 million to Rp 40 million per piece.
